Necidia, The Mercenary Kingdom
WORK IN PROGRESS
Necidia is a bleak landscape of tall, rugged mountains and wavy hills in the north with dry, cool winds that blow nearly year-round from the northeast. The hills open up to some plains toward central and western Necidia, with a few swamps and bogs laying close to the large lakes. Despite its relatively close proximity to the desert nation of Almase, the southern region only stay unbearably warm on the southern coast during the summer months, but the entire south-eastern region is one large swamp.
Throughout the majority of Necidia, the native people display physical qualities similar to both the Almesians and those native to the Rielrief Islands, sporting a healthy tan, broad physiques, and toned musculature. Necidians native to the central and western regions tend to have more qualities similar to the nearby Tarmalainians, as much crossbreeding has occurred over the centuries without a natural geological border to separate the two nations. The eastern-most cities have more than their share of Necidians who have Shou Tsungese, Takan, and Vaelanese ancestry.
Necidians generally prefer functional clothing over the latest fashions; good, rugged boots can help one get much farther in the vastly unfriendly terrain than a noble’s flimsy shoes. It’s not to say that Necidians never wear anything that isn’t meant for travel, however. Most nobility will still wear whatever other nations deem to be in style, as will rich (or retired) individuals such as former adventurers and mercenaries.
Language: Necidian, though Takan, Shou Tsungese, Tyrish, and Vaelanese do find a use in the larger cities.
